ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Peter Skidd is a full time professional artist holding an MFA from the New York Academy of Art in Manhattan.  Each piece endures an arduous process of cutting, grinding, welding, painting and coating.  Calling Arizona home, Peter pulls his palette from the warm desert tones and rich Southwest sunsets.  His steel art is highly customizable in terms of color, dimensions and budget.  Peter completes all the work himself to ensure the highest degree of quality and client satisfaction.

“From my youth the constant presence of my great-grandfather’s art hanging above me throughout my home inspired me to love beauty and to pursue the search for beauty through painting.  I love the limitless avenues of metal, especially the dimensionality, movement and transparency of the steel.  I find great enjoyment in testing ideas, exploring the possibilities in steel and creating art in such a rigid yet flowing medium.”

THE PROCESS:

To begin the process of creating a dimensional steel art piece, Skidd cuts and welds the piece into the desired shape.  The second step is to grind the steel and apply a sealant clear coat.  Multiple thin layers of acrylic paint are then built up, allowing light to reflect off the ground steel.  These layers give a greater dimensionality to an already three-dimensional structure.  The final stage is to apply a UV stabilized exterior polyurethane coating.
